It’s Time to BeReal

September was good.

My parents were in town to visit. We originally had a whole bunch of plans… visiting MoMa, seeing a show on Little Island, walking over the Brooklyn Bridge.

But as fate would have it we all learned about the HOT new social media app, BeReal, on the first night (see SNL sketch). We weren’t sure when the first push notification would strike, so we decided to stay indoors where the wifi connection was strongest.

Waiting to BeReal

It didn’t seem like this dude in Washington Square Park had heard about the app yet, but WOW was he being real!!!

My friend Rita turned 30.5 and we celebrated on a lovely Williamsburg rooftop.

The wind ended up taking our 5, so a cardboard replacement was fashioned. This would have made for a perfect BeReal since I could have captured both angles in the same post, but alas the push notification never came.

Toward the middle of the month I spotted this piece of trash in SoHo.

Gross foam

I decided not to touch it, but it was actually kinda pretty up close. Another missed BeReal moment.

Foam, but closer and better

At one point my friend Ana became a US citizen and wore these crocs to celebrate. Talk about keeping it real… stylish!

One evening I found myself in the backyard of Solid Gold Yogi at a gong meditation and met a few lovely people who were going to a retreat upstate.

A few weeks later I awoke at the retreat in this vintage Airstream.

We practiced yoga in a geodesic dome, sat around a campfire, and hung out with a couple alpacas. We all put down BeReal for a few days so we could BeReal in real life.

In the yoga dome!

The property owner also happened to be a musician and had a full recording studio on the property.

I asked him what bands had recorded at the studio. It turned out Big Thief recorded their album Capacity there! I told him Mary was one of my favorite songs and he let us sit in the studio and listen to the whole song. Incredible.

umm sorry just got BReal notif …
